Well, given that I'm sitting here having a drink, I would agree it's better than a bar in most cases. Those are too hard to hear in and lost their appeal a few years ago for me. Although, nothing beats people trying to hook up with you, and you verbally ruining their night. Ah the storries...

By coming out, do you mean coming out of the closet or just re-introducing yourself?

@Post3 and, you can get your beer / liquor cheaper at the store, then go drink amongst friends.
When we move back downtown I will no doubt patronize the occasional brewhouse or cigar and liquor establishment but not doing noisy clubs anymore either. Have to say feel too old for dealing that shit anymore and am only 40 ... prefer the brew houses / cigar and liquor places now.

Same here. As for bars/pubs, I'm 27 and have never been into them. I haven't drank in five years, but that aside, there are still other things to drink there. My problem is that you can't hear anyone! My boyfriend and I went to one to meet with another friend, and they had live music. It was so loud that I pretty much gave up on trying to hear anyone and we eventually left. Fucking mess! Now I would love a cozy taverna with some mezedes to quench my hunger, a good cigarette, a cup of coffee some nice acoustic music and some good friends, but those kinds of places are impossible to find here. so yeah.
